On July 25, Shanghai Jiao Tong University announced the establishment of Institution of Oceanography (IOO).
Jilan Su, honorary director of Second Institute of Oceanography at MNR and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Bo Lei, deputy director of the science and technology department of the State Oceanic Administration, Yucheng Chai, executive deputy director of the geology department of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, attended the ceremony. Dexiu Ma, secretary of the party committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, delivered a speech at the ceremony.
Executive vice President Lin Zhongqin presided over the establishment ceremony, vice secretary of the party committee Hu Jin announced “Notice on establishment of Marine research institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University". Nearly 200 experts, scholars, teachers and students from the State Ocean Administration, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the commissions and bureaus of Shanghai municipality, and the sister universities in China, the school of Marine and architectural engineering and the institute of oceanography of our university attended the meeting.　　

Professor Meng Zhou, director of Institute of Oceanography and expert of the national distinguished experts program, introduced the development plan of IOO.

At the following far-reaching ocean development strategy forum, Academician Jilan Su and other 5 experts and scholars made academic reports on the current situation of Marine development, the current situation and development opportunities of Marine science in Chinese universities, the development advantages and development modes of Marine science in Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and conducted in-depth exploration and exchanges with participants.
